In computer terms, a border can mean several things. One is a visual border in a document, sometimes a solid line, dotted or dashed line, or one made up of various objects, like flowers, baseballs, animals or virtually any other object. This type of border can be used to represent the outer edge of a document or to separate several sections within a document from each other.
Similar to a border in a document, another type of border is one used to show the outer edge of a computer application. Each application has a border around the application window, often times a solid color or like in Windows 7, a semi-transparent border. This helps to identify where an application window starts and ends.
Another type of border is one that cannot be physically seen, but is set within computer programming code, to keep a mouse cursor from moving past a certain point. In an operating system, a border can keep a mouse cursor on the current computer screen. In a video game, a border can also keep a mouse cursor on the screen. This helps users to know where their mouse cursor is and not lose sight of it. Without it, a mouse cursor could disappear from the screen and make it difficult for a user to find it again and use the mouse.
