Virtual drive

Alternatively referred to as a virtual disk or disc or disk emulator, a virtual drive is a non-existing drive that does not physically exist in the computer. For example, a common use of a virtual drive is to make a virtual CD or DVD drive from a directory or ISO image of a disc and be able to play games without inserting the CD or DVD.

• Microsoft Windows users can use the MS-DOS subst command to create a virtual drive.
